Cram Celebrates 90 Years!
The Cram Foundation has plenty to celebrate this year, with 2022 marking our momentous 90 year anniversary! We are very proud of our significant impact to our region over these years.
The Cram Foundation was first established 1932 as the Wollongong and District Society for Crippled Children, formed by a group of passionate local volunteers who gave their time and resources to care for others with complex disabilities. In 1965 a house was bequeathed to the Society by Miss Martha Cram, and was used as a Children’s Hospital and a Memorial to the Cram family. The property was modified in 1971 and was re-opened as The Illawarra Children’s Hospital (Cram House), caring for post-operative and orthopedic patients. In 1999 the organisation changed its name to The Cram Foundation, now synonymous with the care, support, and community involvement they provide.
Cram has a fascinating history flourishing through both changes to the sector and to the organisation itself. What hasn’t changed is our commitment to making a positive difference. That same passion that was shown in 1932 has continued throughout the organisation’s history as we have grown to support over 50 people with complex care needs, operate 15 homes and employ over 220 people locally.
This 90th Anniversary is a momentous occasion for the organisation and the local disability industry. This is a year to reflect on how far we have come, and the significant impact we have made to our local region and to the lives of people with a disability for over 90 years. The Cram Foundation’s CEO, Karen Burdett, says ‘90 years is a huge accomplishment for any organisation, and is a testament to our dedication to our participants and resilience to change and challenges. We are looking forward to recognising this with our community and supporters throughout the year’.
The Cram Foundation will be holding a number of events to mark this milestone year, including a Gala Dinner to celebrate with the community that Cram has been making a difference alongside for 90 years. The Community Gala Dinner will be held on Friday 25th November 2022. Support, sponsorship, and partnership opportunities are available across all major events this year. Cram's 90th Gala Dinner will be held at City Beach Function Centre Wollongong on Friday 25th November 2022 at 6:30pm.
